JFE Steel Develops New Titanium Alloy with High Elasticity

JFE Steel announced on Monday the firm developed new titanium alloy “SP-700HM” with high strength, high material workability and high elasticity which can be applied to airplanes, golf clubs and motor sport machines. The new alloy is adopted to YONEX’s new golf clubs “New NANOV Driver” which will be sold on March 16. Several golf club makers other than YONEX also decided to use SP-700HM for their new drivers this year.SP-700HM has a special property called “Super Plasticity” which means the alloy stretches like melting candy at over 700 degrees Celsius, lower by more than 100 degrees compared with previous titanium alloys. Additionally the new alloy has high elasticity to change its shape largely by putting some forces. The new alloy can enhance rigidity of golf driver face by about 12% from previous alloys according to JFE Steel’s computer simulation.
