Dowa Metaltech to Buy Yamaha’s Copper Fabrication Unit

Dowa Metaltech, which is Dowa Holdings’ metal processing subsidiary, announced on Tuesday the firm acquires controlling share of Yamaha Metanix Corporation, which is Yamaha Corporations’ copper processing wholly owned subsidiary, and of Yamaha-Olin Metal Corporation, which is sales force and Yamaha has 50% share in. Dowa Metaltech purchases 90% share of Yamaha Metanix and 50% share of Yamaha-Olin Metal from Yamaha Corporation in September. Dowa Metaltech seeks synergy with Yamaha Metanix, which has strong assets for semiconductor industry, and increases the monthly production from current 5,000 tonnes to domestic largest class of 6,000 tonnes in 2010. Dowa Metaltech’s major field is high valued copper alloy strip for automotive terminal connector. The firm expands the business through expansion of hot rolling facilities in Japan and new base in Thailand. The firm expands the business through acquisition of Yamaha Metanix with strong lead frame business. Dowa Metaltech has partnership with Olin Corporation of USA, which has interest in Yamaha-Olin Metal, through mutual license for technology of copper alloy and tin plating products. Yamaha Metanix was established in 1959 as metal research unit of Yamaha. The firm entered into technical partnership with US largest rolled copper maker of Olin Corporation in 1983 to make copper alloy for lead frame of semiconductor. Yamaha-Olin Metal is 50/50 sales force joint venture of Yamaha Corporation and Olin Corporation. The sales force markets copper alloy materials from Yamaha Metanix to Southeast Asia.
