Japan Steel Industry Offers Post Kyoto Energy Saving

Chairman Hajime Bada of Japan Iron and Steel Federation (JISF) said on Thursday at monthly press conference JISF tries to seek better system to improve the energy efficiency worldwide after Kyoto Protocol. JISF announced proposal against global warming after 2013. He said industrial nations can contribute the efficient system through environmental and energy saving technology transfer to developing countries. He expects with world lowest energy consumption standard of Japanese industry, world steel industry could reduce around 300 million tonnes per year of carbon dioxide emission, which represents around 1.5% of world CO2 emission. Mr. Bada said Indian steel market has growth potential with large population and resources as China if India would have better infrastructure. He emphasized the potentiality when major steel projects could expand Indian raw steel output to 300 million tonnes by 2020. Mr. Bada said on Sumitomo Metal Industries’ new integrated steel plant in Brazil, Japanese steel makers would enter into developing countries mainly in BRICs gradually. He expects Japanese steel makers expand the offshore operations.
