Viscas Receives 500kV XLPE Cable Order for Shanghai Expo

Viscas Corporation, a fifty-fifty joint venture between Furukawa Electric and Fujikura to produce ultra high voltage power cable, announced on Tuesday the firm received a large order from Shanghai Electric Power Company of China for 500 kilovolt XLPE cable (cross-linked polyethylene insulated cable) with 2,500 square millimeters of copper cross section and the joint parts. The total order value is about 5.5 billion yen and the total cable length is about 51 kilometers. Viscas will complete the delivery at the end of 2008. The 500kV XLPE cable will be used for a main power supply line for the site of Shanghai Expo held in 2010.Viscas entered into a formal contract with Shanghai Electric Power on December 7, 2006. Shanghai Expo project is to lay 2 power supply lines on a root about 17 km long, 1 line of which Viscas covers. The all cables will be laid in a special tunnel for the power lines. Viscas supplies original joint parts and tools as well as XLPE cable. The cable construction was contracted by Chinese jointer, while Viscas will offer technical trainings and joint direction at the construction sites.
