Ferrous scrap price is firm at 24,500 yen per tonne for H2, 26,800 yen for H1 and 28,500 yen for HS at dealers’ purchase price including freight around Tokyo. The price is expected to keep firm when local electric furnace steel makers increase the output. Local makers pay 31,500-32,000 yen per tonne and some pay as high as 33,000 yen. The purchase price keeps high level due to higher output and attempt by makers to prevent export after the price increased by around 2,000 yen in December.
