Japan Official Zinc Price Rebounds to 522,000 Yen/t

Mitsui Mining & Smelting announced on Monday the firm raised official zinc ingot price by 37,000 yen to 522,000 yen per tonne for domestic shipment in January. The price was revised up thanks to the rebound of zinc price at London Metal Exchange (LME) and cheaper yen exchange rate against US dollar. The monthly average upped to 519,500 yen.LME zinc spot price continued increasing by US$ 65.5 to US$ 3,955.5 per tonne at settlement on Friday from previous day. LME zinc settlement price declined by 14% on January 10 from US$ 4,259 on January 2 when nonferrous metals market totally weakened after New Year holidays. However, the zinc price rebounded and approached US$ 4,000 again thanks to world supply tightness of zinc ingot and recovery of LME copper price.Telegraphic transfer selling rate became to 121.15 yen per US dollar on Monday, which became cheaper by 0.72 yen from January 10 when Mitsui Mining & Smelting previously revised official zinc price.
