Japan Makers to Hike Carbon Steel Wire Products

Japanese carbon steel wire product makers will raise their selling prices in April-May after wire rod makers have upped their selling prices twice this year. The product makers would not keep profitability without the hike when wire rod supply is expected to tighten in Japan.Carbon steel wire makers around Osaka, including Sunrock Oyodo, Han-nan, Yasuda Sangyo, Nito Rail and Wire Techno, carried out second price hike in 2007 such for common steel wire, annealed steel wire, nail or welded wire mesh. Wire manufacturers around Tokyo or Sendai announced the hike as well. They will raise carbon steel wire price by around 5,000 yen per tonne effective for shipment in late April or May.Godo Steel and Nakayama Steel Works, Japanese major wire rod makers, will increase their selling prices for May shipment after the previous hike in January-February. The makers have raised the selling price twice and by more than 10,000 yen per tonne in only 3 months. The hike was exceptionally wide and rapid in recent years.
