Ferrous Scrap Price Drops in Tokyo

Electric furnace steel makers around Tokyo reduced the ferrous scrap purchase price. They pay 33,500-34,500 yen per tonne for H2 grade and some pay as high as 35,000 yen. The price decreased by total 1,500-2,000 yen in the month. They try to reduce the price when they get smooth scrap arrival under easy supply. Tokyo Steel Manufacturing reduced the scrap purchase price by 500 yen per tonne for all grades at all plants on Tuesday. The purchase price is 35,000 yen per tonne for H2 grade at Utsunomiya plant. Some other local makers followed the move to reduce the purchase price when local scrap dealers try to ship inventory earlier with expectation for lower price. Electric furnaces around Osaka also reduced the scrap purchase price by 500 yen per tonne. They pay 36,500-37,500 yen per tonne for H2 grade, which is 2,000 yen lower than recent peak in April, after many local makers reduced the purchase prices on Tuesday.
