Japan Steel Export Rises by 6.8% in May

Japanese steel export increased by 6.8% to 3.176 million tonnes in May from a year earlier, announced by Ministry of Finance on Thursday. The export value increased by 31.8% to 353.259 billion yen. The import increased by 34.2% to 798,949 tonnes and the value increased by 60.1% to 93.039 billion yen. The steel export increased by 10.8% for Asia in May from a year earlier while the volume decreased by 22.3% for USA and by 13.5% for European Union. The export increased by 11.7% for China. The export value increased the all major areas. The value increased by 8.6% for USA, by 27% for EU and by 36.9% for Asia. The export value for China increased by 23.5%. The steel import increased by 80.7% from USA, by 9.7% from EU and by 36% from Asia in May from a year earlier. The import from China increased by 67.4%. The import value increased by 36.8% from USA, by 7.4% from EU and by 74.6% from Asia. The import value increased by 108% from China.
