Nonferrous Scrap Deal Drops in Tokyo in March

Tokyo’s nonferrous metals scrap deal decreased by more than 35% both for arrivals and shipments by dealers in March from a year earlier, according to local industry group. The copper scrap supply was tight despite of the decreasing copper ingot price. Copper scraps’ arrivals and shipments decreased for all items in the month from a year earlier. The dealing decreased by more than 70% for no.1 copper wire and no.2 copper wire scraps. Especially, high grade copper scrap generation was very low. The dealers had trouble to secure materials to ship for rolled copper makers. The shipments were higher than arrivals. The new cutting brass scrap shipment increased by 22.7% in the month from a year earlier under higher demand from sheet and strip makers. The brass turning scrap dealing decreased both for arrivals and shipments due to lower purchase volume by brass bar makers. The aluminium scrap dealing decreased by more than 70% both for arrivals and shipments in the month from a year earlier. The zinc scrap dealing decreased by 68.5% for arrivals and by 67.1% for shipments. The lead scrap arrivals increased by 40.9% while the shipments decreased slightly.
