Ohki Brass & Copper to Reduce Brass Bar Output in Jul-Sep

Ohki Brass & Copper, Tokyo based copper alloy products maker, plans brass bar output at average 2,500 tonnes per month for July-September, down by about 500 tonnes per month compared with previous quarter period. The firm keeps the balance between the output and market demand when brass bar demand seasonally declines in summer and is adjusted for some of main applications including automobiles, buildings and gas appliances. The firm will reduce the brass bar production to 2,400-2,500 tonnes per month in August when there are Japanese long summer holidays, while recover to 2,700-2,800 tonnes in September thanks to the emergence of seasonal demand in autumn. At the same time, the firm tries to improve the yield ratio when the purchasing price for brass turning scrap, the main material for brass bar, stays at record high level of more than 700 yen per kilogram and the firm is suffered from productive loss in the melting process as much as above 30 yen per kg. The firm also examines another action to reduce the impact.
