Japan Carbon Steel Export Drops by 7.3% in June

Japanese carbon steel export decreased by 7.3% to 2.09 million tonnes in June from a year earlier, which dropped for 2 months in a row, announced by Japan Iron and Steel Federation on Tuesday. The export decreased for flat products including the major item of hot rolled wide strip, which decreased for 4 months in a row. The carbon steel export decreased by 1.3% to 6.156 million tonnes in April-June from same period of 2006. The export increased by 2.2% to 12.221 million tonnes for January-June. The total steel export decreased by 14.8% to 760,000 tonnes for South Korea in June from a year earlier, which decreased for the first time in 3 months. The export to China decreased by 3.7% to 551,000 tonnes, which decreased for the first time in 3 months. The export to USA decreased by 27.3% to 162,000 tonnes, which decreased for 4 months in a row. The export increased by 2.0% to 333,000 tonnes for Thailand, which increased for 3 months in a row, and by 3.4% to 350,000 tonnes, which increased for the first time in 2 months.
