Japanese stainless steel scrap export decreased to 127,250 tonnes in January-June from same period of 2006, which was first drop in 4 half year periods, according to Ministry of Finance. The export to China increased for 4 half year periods in a row topping the export to South Korea for the first time. The export to South Korea was 51,550 tonnes in January-June, which was 47% lower than same period of 2006 and 39% lower than July-December 2006. The export to China was 71,610 tonnes in the period, which was 76% higher than same period of 2006 and 69% higher than July-December 2006.
