Japan Ferrous Scrap Demand Drops by 2.2% in June

Japanese ferrous scrap consumption decreased in June from previous month for the first time in 2 months. Japan Ferrous Raw Materials Association reported the total consumption decreased by 2.2% to 4.443 million tonnes including converter, electric furnace and casting operations. The converters’ consumption decreased by 5.4% to 955,000 tonnes in June from previous month. The consumption decreased by 6.5% to 2.799 million tonnes while the castings’ consumption increased by 9.9% to 599,000 tonnes. The ferrous scrap supply decreased by 4.4% to 4.39 million tonnes in June from previous month. The supply from domestic market decreased by 6.1% to 3.101 million tonnes while the supply from steel plants decreased by 0.8% to 1.279 million tonnes.
