Alloyed Aluminium Makers to Seek Sharp Scrap Price Drop

Secondary alloyed aluminium makers apparently seek more than 20 yen per kilogram of scrap price down for scrap dealers for shipment in second half of August. A maker source said the price drop could be historical wide when offshore market plunges and yen rate increases against US dollar. The dealer source said the price change is fair at 15 yen down for higher grade and 10 yen down for low grade. With lower offshore market and higher yen rate, Japanese primary aluminium ingot price decreased to around 310 yen per kg, which is more than 30 yen lower than a week ago and more than 40 yen lower than peak in August. Aluminium scrap supply is expected to decrease for a while due to summer holiday shutdown by manufacturers last week. A dealer expects the tight supply could continue for a month. Alloyed aluminium makers could have trouble to reduce the price for the target level at the negotiation in the week.
