Mitsubishi-Hitachi Supplies Hot Rolling Mill for Dongbu Steel

Mitsubishi-Hitachi Metals Machinery jointly with Hitachi, Mitsubishi International Corporation and Daniel Wen United announced on Friday the firm awarded a contract from Dongbu Steel, South Korean major steel maker, for supply of a slab type hot rolling mill with an initial annual capacity of 2.5 million tonnes. The hot rolling mill is supplied to electric steel making and hot rolling plant with the annual capacity of 2.5 million tonnes in Asanman with investment of 620 billion won or about 75 billion yen. The amount of accepted order by Mitsubishi-Hitachi Metals Machinery is expected to be above 10 billion yen. This rolling mill is direct rolling measure which connects to hot rolling mill and continuous casting unlike existing hot rolling mill. Mitsubishi-Hitachi Metals Machinery supplied this Rolling Mill to 3 Chinese steel makers such as Tang Shan Iron & Steel with Daniel. The firm accepted this rolling mill for the first time except China. Dongbu Steel has plants in Incheon and Asanman, which purchase hot coil from Japanese integrated steel makers and POSCO in South Korea and produce cold rolled steel sheet and surface treated steel sheet at about 2.7 million tonnes per year. Dongbu Steel will introduce 2 electric furnaces, vacuum refining equipment, continuous casting and hot rolling mills and start operation of Asanman plant in 2009. The plant supplies hot coil of 2 million tonnes to cold rolling line and that of 500,000 tonnes to the sales. As for electric furnace, refining and continuous casting equipment, Daniel has been awarded.
