Japan Carbon Steel Export Drops by 3.4% in July

Japanese carbon steel export decreased by 3.4% to 2.067 million tonnes in July from a year earlier, which decreased for 3 months in a row, announced by Japan Iron and Steel Federation on Monday. The export decreased for plate, cold rolled wide strip, galvanizing steel and pipe while the hot rolled wide strip export increased by 9.2%, which was first increase in 5 months. The carbon steel export increased by 1.4% to 14.289 million tonnes in January-July from same period of 2006. The total steel export increased by 11.5% to 788,000 tonnes for South Korea in July from a year earlier, which was first increase in 2 months. The export to Thailand increased by 15.6% to 377,000 tonnes, which increased for 9 months in a row. The export to China decreased by 10.0% to 506,000 tonnes, which decreased for 2 months in a row. The export to Taiwan decreased by 3.4% to 292,000 tonnes, which decreased for the first time in 2 months. The export to USA decreased by 21.2% to 147,000 tonnes, which decreased for 5 months in a row.
