Showa Denko Commercializes 1.89-inch 80GB HD Media

Showa Denko announced on Friday the firm started commercial production of 1.89-inch hard disk (HD) media with storage capacity of 80 gigabytes per disk. The demand is expected for high-vision video cameras and mobile-sized personal computers.Showa Denko started shipment of HD media using perpendicular magnetic recording (PMR) technology in June 2005. PMR technology realizes remarkable expansion of HD media’s storage capacity. Showa Denko started shipment of PMR method HD media for the first time in the world.The firm also started mass production of 2.5-inch 160GB HD media and 3.5-inch 334GB HD media in the first half of 2007. The demand of large storage capacity HD is increasing for high-vision video recorders and HD video cameras.Showa Denko organizes supply system of PMR method HD media to meet active demand.
