Onamba to Start Vietnamese New Plant in March 2008

Onamba, Osaka based electric wire and cable manufacturer, plans to start commercial production of wiring unit for solar cells and wiring harness for flat panel displays (FPDs) in March 2008 when the construction of its Vietnamese new plant completes. Onamba Group’s total production of solar cell wiring unit is estimated to triple to 1.2 million units per month in 2010 from the current volume. Onamba aims to concentrate 50% production of solar cell wiring unit into the Vietnamese plant for advantages of lower costs.The new plant is located in Vietnam-Singapore Industrial Park, Binh Duong Region of Vietnam. The initial floor space is 10,000 square meters on the land of 30,000 square meters. Onamba is the world top supplier of solar cell wiring unit with 30% share currently. The firm locates the productive sites in Japan, China, Czech and Mexico. In fiscal 2006 ended March 2007, solar cell wiring unit represented more than 10% of Onamba’s consolidated net sales.The Vietnamese plant will also start production of FPD wiring harness in March 2008. Onamba plans to increase the output mainly for European and North American markets as soon as Vietnamese operation takes off. The firm also examines to start production of ultra-fine special cables at the Vietnamese plant in future.
