Japan Official Copper Price Down to 980,000 yen/t

Nippon Mining & Metals announced on Thursday the firm decreased the official copper ingot price by 20,000 yen to 980,000 yen per tonne for domestic shipment in October. The price downed to below 1 million yen only after 3 business days. The latest price is as low as 980,000 yen on 25 September, 2007. The monthly average would be 989,500 yen without any more revision within October.Copper price at London Metal Exchange declined to below US$ 8,000 per tonne at both spot and 3-month future prices on Wednesday while copper spot price at New York Mercantile Exchange downed to US 358.45 cents per pound on the same day. LME and NYMEX copper markets hit the lowest since 21 September, 2007.The telegraphic transfer selling rate was 117.59 yen per US dollar on Thursday. Yen became stronger against US dollar for 3 business days in a row and recovered to the highest level since 5 October, 2007 when stock markets weakened.
