Ferrous Scrap Price Drops by 500 yen in Tokyo

Electric furnace steel makers around Tokyo reduced the ferrous scrap purchase price by around 500 yen to 37,000-39,000 yen per tonne in the week. Scrap export price from Tokyo bay is around FOB 37,500 yen per tonne. Slower export shipping eases local supply. With the easy purchase condition, local makers could reduce the scrap purchase price more. Tokyo Steel Manufacturing reduced the scrap purchase price by 500 yen per tonne for all plants on Tuesday. The price decreased to 39,000 yen for H2 and 41,500 yen for new cutting grade at Utsunomiya plant. Other makers around Tokyo also reduced the purchase price. Their purchase price decreased by 2,000-3,000 yen in the month. Steel makers around Osaka also reduce the scrap purchase price to 39,000-40,500 yen per tonne for H2 grade, which is 500 yen lower than recent peak. With more supply from other areas, the local supply increases. Local makers could reduce the purchase price more when scrap export is slow and scrap supply around Tokyo is more than the consumption.
