Nippon Steel’s Blast Furnace Achieves 100 Million tonnes for 32 years

Nippon Steel’s no.3 blast furnace in Kimitsu iron works achieved total pig iron output at 100 million tonnes in November 1 for 32 years and 3 months. No.3 blast furnace started the operation in September 13, 1971, which continued stable production after second repair work. Kimitsu iron works has 3 blast furnaces which those furnace volume at 3273 cubic meters, 4822 cubic meters and 5555 cubic meters. The works repaired no.4 blast furnace in 2003, and built up the production capacity of high-valued products in steel making plant by the expansion of the continuous casting equipment. The works’ crud steel reached 10 million tonnes in fiscal 2005 at the ended of March 2006, record at 10.02 million tonnes in fiscal 2006, and keeps high pace which exceed in fiscal 2006. Nippon Steel’s Oita iron works expands the furnace volume of no.1 blast furnace to 5775 cubic meters from 4,884 cubic meters in spring 2009 and builds up biggest twin blast furnaces in the world. There is high possible that Kimitsu iron works expands no.2 blast furnace which enters the timing of repair.
