Nisshin Steel, Acerinox to Launch Stainless Cold Rolling in India

Nisshin Steel prepares to launch Indian stainless cold rolling joint venture as early as 2011. The firm and Acerinox of Spain are final stage of the study to build cold rolling mill with 100,000-200,000 tonnes of annual output capacity. They decide the feasibility of the project in early 2008. Nisshin Steel eyes potential stainless steel making shop at the site to seek next growth for the offshore stainless operation. Nisshin Steel and Acerinox talk the cold rolled stainless steel project to build 1 or 2 sendzimir mills. They already find candidate site in western coast of India for the project and if they would decide the project, they secure land enough to integrated stainless plant from steel making to cold rolling. The project is likely to take 2 and half or 3 years preparation including construction.The project rolls hot rolled stainless materials from existing plants of Acerinox or Nisshin Steel. They try to enter the Indian market at first with cold rolling operation and expand the plant to integrated complex depending on the market. Nisshin Steel covers European and US market through Acerinox, in which Nisshin Steel has 11% interest. Nisshin Steel also has stainless cold rolling joint venture with Baosteel Group of China and stainless tubing plant in USA through cooperation with Acerinox’s US plant. Nisshin Steel eyes stainless tubing line at Indian steel tubing joint venture started August 2007.
