Showa Denko announced on Tuesday the firm doubles the output capacity of aluminium-gallium-indium-phosphide ultra bright red/yellow light emitting diode chip to monthly 200 million units by end of 2008 for around 1.2 billion yen. The firm tries to expand the supply for growing ultra bright applications for outdoor display and automotive parts. The firm targets 15 billion yen sales for the business in 2008. The firm finished expansion from monthly 30 million units to 100 million units at Chichibu plant in October. The application is expanded to rear light and interior lighting of automobile and liquid crystal backlighting of flat panel television and computer. The firm decided the additional expansion to meet growing demand in and after 2008 when the firm expects the demand will increase by more than 30% per year. The firm’s AlGaInP ultra bright LED chip has the world best class brightness with the original technology. The firm meets the various needs through the variety including red, orange and yellow colors and wide size range. The firm tries to expand the business for ultra bright LED business as next growth driver under the 3-year plan through 2008. The firm expands the sales to 15 billion yen in 2008 for bright LED chip including gallium-nitride blue/green LED chip and AlGaInP red/yellow LED chip.
