Toyota Tsusho Develops Gas Measuring Technology for Metal Recycle

Toyota Tsusho Corporation, Japanese major trading house belonging to Toyota Motor group, announced the firm started development of a new metal recycling technology mainly for automotive secondary aluminium in cooperation with Japan Atomic Energy Agency. By utilization of the agancy’s measuring technique, the firm aims to measure impurities inside metal ingot more precisely and improve the product grade. The firm will invest 1 billion yen to introduce the measuring technology in its global 13 plants in or after fiscal 2008 to supply high-grade secondary aluminium.Toyota Tsusho started co-development with Japan Atomic Energy Agency in March 2007. The new technology enables measurement of any gases inside metal ingot while the existent method can measure only hydrogen. Better quality and safety are expected as well as efficient withdrawal of chlorofluorocarbon by the new technology for secondary aluminium ingot. The firm expects to adopt the technology for recycling of any nonferrous metal scrap such as magnesium and copper.Toyota Tsusho will introduce new measuring equipment in secondary aluminium smelter in Kanda City, Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan within fiscal 2008 starting April. Then the firm will widen the adoption of the new measuring technology for global 13 smelters to provide high grade secondary aluminium.
