Japan Alloyed Aluminium Makers to Reduce High Grade Scrap Price

Japanese alloyed aluminium makers decided to reduce aluminium scrap purchase price by 5 yen per kilogram for higher grade scrap for second half of January while they keep the purchase price for lower grade scrap. They start the negotiation with scrap suppliers in the week. Japanese primary aluminium price is around 269 yen per kg, which is the lowest level in 26 months under lower offshore market and higher yen rate. The lower primary price could reduce the higher grade aluminium scrap price. The lower grade scrap supply is still tight keeping higher price. The scrap dealers also expect the lower scrap price when the higher grade scrap price keeps high level for adjusted primary aluminium price. The lower grade scrap price keeps firm due to lower supply under very slow building activity. The used beverage can price is expected to keep the level in the negotiation between alloyed aluminium makers and scrap dealers. The supply is tight with strong demand for alloy makers and export for South Korea.
