Showa Denko Increases High Purity Al Output Capacity

Showa Denko announced on Friday the firm completed the construction of a new aluminium refining line at Showa Denko Sakai Aluminum, a consolidated subsidiary of Showa Denko headed in Sakai, Osaka Prefecture, Japan. Showa Denko’s output capacity of high purity aluminum slab with 99.99% purity will increase to 1,600 tonnes per month from current 1,000 tonnes. Showa Denko’s self procurement of high purity aluminium slab rises to 90% from recent 70% with the new refining line. At the same time, its high-purity aluminum foil production capacity increases to above 1,800 tonnes per month from current 1,500 tonnes which is used for electrolytic capacitors.Demand for aluminum electrolytic capacitor has increased substantially in recent years applied into digital appliances and automotive parts. Demand for high purity aluminium foil has also expanded following the trend since last year. In and after July-September 2007, high purity aluminum foil production in Japan has continued to exceed 4,000 tonnes per month. The market is expected to grow at an annual rate of around 10% with Beijing Olympics held this summer and the demand growth for hybrid cars.
