Japan Construction Al Materials Supply Drops in 2007

Japanese aluminium construction materials output decreased by 9.7% to 333,204 tonnes in 2007 from 2006, according to Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry. The shipment decreased by 387,173 tonnes. The volume decreased for 4 years in a row for the output and for 7 years in a row for the shipment. The demand was impacted by very slow building activity after new building start law started in June 2007. The output and shipment of aluminium sash for wood housing decreased by more than 10% in 2007 from 2006, which decreased for 4 years in a row. The volume for sash for building decreased for the first time in 2 years. The volume for aluminium door decreased for 8 years in a row. The exterior volume decreased for 7 years in a row for the output and for 3 years in a row for the shipment. The aluminium construction materials output decreased by 19.4% To 25,749 tonnes and the shipment decreased by 18.2% to 30,415 tonnes in December from a year earlier.
