Tatsuta Electric Wire & Cable to Expand Shielding Film Capacity

Tatsuta Electric Wire & Cable, Osaka based electric wire and cable maker, announced on Wednesday its subsidiary, Tatsuta System Electronics, establishes a new plant for functional films inside Kyoto works, Japan. Tatsuta’s functional film is mainly used as an electromagnetic shielding material. Construction of the new plant will start in March 2008 and the operation will start in December 2008. Tatsuta’s output capacity of functional films will double from 160,000 square meters per month to 320,000 square meters. The capital expenditure is approximately 2 billion yen.The new plant will be two-storied with 4,000 square meters floor which will be equipped with a high-efficient coating machine, a slitter, a mill and four mixers to produce special conductive paste. The output capacity will be 160,000 square meters per month as much as Osaka works. The new plant aims higher quality and cost efficiency by faster line speed and automated inspections.Kyoto works will produce mainly low-end films while Osaka works high-end and small-lot films. Tatsuta tries to shorten productive lead time of functional films to 5 days thoroughly in Asia area.Demand for functional film is increasing as an electromagnetic shielding material for flexible printed circuits and flexible flat cables which are applied into mobile appliances, game machines and flat panel televisions.
