High Demand Growth for FPD and Car Navigation to 2012

Global demand for flat panel display (FPD) television is expected to grow at average annual growth rate of 15.9% toward 2012, according to a demand forecast for audio visual appliances announced by Japan Electronics & Information Technology Industries Association (JEITA) on 21 February. Global demand for car navigation system is estimated to increase at AAGR 9.1% by 2012.Global demand for all TVs, including cathode-ray TVs and projection TVs, is expected to increase to 236.12 million units in 2012 from 185.32 million units in 2007 at AAGR 5%. FPD will represent more than 50% of all TVs in 2008 and 76.2% in 2012.Chinese TV market is forecasted to grow at AAGR 5.3% toward 2012. Total demand will increase from 38.65 million units in 2007 to 50.1 million units in 2012. Demand for FPD televisions will expand mainly in urban sites. FPD is expected to represent 54% of all TV demand in 2010 and 64% in 2012.Demand for in-vehicle AV appliances is also expected high growth worldwide. Especially car navigation system will increase from 7.85 million units in 2007 to 12.11 million units in 2012, up by 54%. In emerging countries, car navigation systems will be utilized for map data organization or road infrastructure construction as well as equipment into vehicles. Demand will also increase in advanced countries due to more digital services in automobiles.
