Nippon Steel Trading Expands Scrap Business with New Yards

Nippon Steel Trading, Nippon Steel group’s company, opened ferrous scrap warehouses in Niigata and Chiba Prefectures, Japan last year to start commercial trading this year. The firm will increase ferrous scrap supply to Nippon Steel. The firm estimates the supply volume to Nippon Steel at about 400,000 tonnes through fiscal 2007 ending March 2008 and at about 500,000 tonnes through fiscal 2008.Nippon Steel Trading supplies ferrous scrap mainly to Nippon Steel’s Muroran iron works, Hirohata iron works and Oita iron works from Niigata warehouse. The warehouse started trading in June 2007 which can stock ferrous scrap at maximum about 3,000 tonnes per month. Chiba yard is near Nippon Steel’s Kimitsu iron works, starting scrap trading in August 2007. At Chiba yard, high grade ferrous scrap is mainly collected at 3,000 tonnes per month to Kimitsu iron works.Nippon Steel Trading already holds 3 warehouses in North Japan and one warehouse in Middle Japan to supply ferrous scrap mainly to Nippon Steel. Nippon Steel is increasing ferrous scrap adoption to reduce carbon oxide emissions.
