Global White LED Market to Grow Up to 300B Yen in 2011

Global market of white LED (light emitting diode) is forecasted to increase by 2.5 times to 28 billion units in 2011 compared with 11 billion units in 2007, according to a market research by Fuji-Keizai, Japanese market researcher. In value, global market is expected to grow to 300 billion yen in 2011 from 170 billion yen in 2007.In 2007, global market of white LED was estimated to grow up by 22.2% year-on-year in volume and by 6.3% in value. Demand was especially strong from backlights for liquid crystal display (LCD) panels, which represents near 50% in global white LED demand. White LED started to be adopted to general lighting lamps and automobiles as well.White LED is expected to used more for LCD backlights since white LED direct method LCD system seems to be introduced widely toward 2011. In general lighting markets, demand is expected to increase for high power white LED.In Japanese residential lighting market, LED adoption rate was less than 1% in 2007 at 600 million yen market share in total 92.1 billion yen. Adoption rate is forecasted to rise to 1.8% in 2011 at 2 billion yen market share in total 110.3 billion yen. Incandescent lump share will halve from 14.7 billion yen in 2007 to 7.3 billion yen in 2011, while LED and organic EL (electroluminescence) shares will grow up.
