Japan Carbon Steel Import Reduces by 13.5% in February

Japanese carbon steel import decreased by 13.5% to 273,000 tonnes in February from a year earlier, which decreased for 5 consecutive months, announced by Japan Iron and Steel Federation on Friday. The flat and long products import decreased. Total import for January-February decreased by 11.5% to 589,000 tonnes compared with January-February 2007.The flat steel import decreased by 5.5% to 253,000 tonnes in February from a year earlier. Main item of hot rolled sheet import decreased by 9.1%. Plate import decreased by 57.7%. The long products import decreased by 64.8% to 13,000 tonnes. Main item of wire rod import decreased by 74.0%.The flat steel import decreased by 7.0% to 532,000 tonnes for January-February corresponding to last year. Main item of hot rolled sheet import decreased by 5.0%. Plate import decreased by 37.9%. The long products import decreased by 41.6% to 43,000 tonnes. Main item of wire rod import decreased by 38.7%.
