SEI Starts Optical Transceiver Production in Suzhou, China

Sumitomo Electric Industries (SEI) announced on Thursday the firm started integrated production of optical transceivers in Suzhou, China this month. SEI manufactures optical transceivers at Sumitomo Electric Photo-Electronics Components (Suzhou), SEI’s total subsidiary in Suzhou, with TOSA (transmitter optical sub assembly) and ROSA (receiver optical sub assembly) those which are also produced at the subsidiary. The capital expenditure for Suzhou plant is 2.5 billion yen.SEI aims to expand SEI Group’s global output capacity of optical devices and transceivers by 50% toward the end of March 2009 from a year earlier. At Suzhou plant, the firm initially produces low-speed optical transceivers, which are applied mainly to optical LAN and public telecommunication networks, and will start production of high-speed transceivers in near future. Global demand for high-speed optical transceivers is expected to grow steadily.
