Mitsubishi Shindoh to Expand Copper Strip Output at Sambo Plant

Mitsubishi Shindoh, a copper and copper alloy fabricator of Mitsubishi Materials Group, will expand the output of copper strips at Sambo plant, Osaka, Japan. The firm plans to increase productive equipment at the plant with 6-7 billion yen capital expenditure for fiscal 2008-2009 ending March 2010. At the same time, the production of high-function copper alloy strips will be partially transferred from Wakamatsu plant, Fukushima, Japan to Sambo plant. Wakamatsu plant will increase the production of copper alloy ingot. The total copper strip output will increase by 40% to 11,500 tonnes per month at Sambo and Wakamatsu plants.Mitsubishi Shindoh plans to invest 6-7 billion yen in Sambo plant for fiscal 2008-2009 to introduce a roller, heat treating facilities, a tension leveler and a slitter. The monthly copper strip output is expected to increase to 4,200 tonnes from previous 3,200 tonnes.The firm will invest 6 billion yen for Wakamatsu plant to renew or convert productive facilities, for example, to widen rollers and slitters. The copper strip production will be partially transferred to Sambo plant. The transferring capacity is 800 tonnes per month, accounting for about 15% of Wakamatsu’s current output. Sambo’s copper strip output will total 5,000 tonnes per month after the transfer, up by 60% from now.Wakamatsu plant will increase high functional copper alloy ingot by utilization of the open space after the transfer. The plant will keep the total monthly output at 6,500 tonnes while increase the production ratio of high quality products.
