Japan Steel’s Carbon Steel Order Rises by 5.8% in April

Japanese steel makers’ carbon steel order receipt increased by 5.8% to 6.953 million tonnes in April from a year earlier, announced by Japan Iron and Steel Federation on Tuesday. The order increased by 12.4% to 2.117 million tonnes for export and by 3.1% to 4.837 million tonnes for domestic market. The domestic order receipt from manufacturers increased by 7.7% to 2.085 million tonnes in April from a year earlier. The order increased by 10.3% to 1.006 million tonnes for automobile, by 6.6% to 230,000 tonnes for industrial machinery, by 7.7% to 496,000 tonnes for shipbuilding and by 3.6% to 118,000 tonnes for packaging. The order decreased by 1.6% to 652,000 tonnes for construction in April from a year earlier when the order increased by 16.3% to 313,000 tonnes for civil works. The order from distributors decreased by 2.7% to 1.334 million tonnes.
