Mitsui Mining & Smelting to Expand Electro-Copper Foil Output

Mitsui Mining & Smelting expands the electrolytic copper foil output at home and abroad. The firm studies additional capacity expansion after 50% expansion for domestic special copper foil earlier the year. The firm already announced the firm doubles electrolytic copper foil output capacity for 12 micrometers thick at Taiwan and Malaysia. The firm tries to expand the Asian market share from current 50% to 70% for 12 micrometers thick products.

The firm expanded the monthly output capacity of ultra thin copper foil with carrier foil from 300,000 square meters to 450,000 square meters through clearing bottleneck. The firm launches the expanded capacity in August after approval from the users. The firm studies additional expansion depending on the market.

The firm added new facility at Taiwanese subsidiary to make monthly 200 tonnes more of 12 micrometers thick electrolytic copper foil while the firm expanded the capacity at Malaysian subsidiary. The firm doubled the capacity to more than 600 tonnes per month at the 2 subsidiary.

Asian market of electrolytic copper foil shifts from 35 micrometers products to 12 micrometers recently when the application is expanded to cell phone and portable music players. The firm tries to meet the growing market for next growth.
