Japan High Carbon FeMn Makers Seek 100,000 yen/t Hike for Jul.-Sep.

Japanese major ferroalloy makers seek 90,000-100,000 yen per tonne of hike for high carbon ferromanganese for July-September shipment from April-June. They already started negotiation with the buyers to reflect higher international price. The price level is expected to become 370,000-390,000 yen per tonne depending on the condition. The manganese ferroalloy price is likely to keep high when the international price is supported by firm demand and higher cost for ore and electricity. International price of high carbon ferromanganese increased to more than US$ 3,000 per tonne, which is around US$ 700 higher than January-March level. Japanese suppliers and buyers revise the price level quarterly depending on international price and foreign exchange rate in previous quarter. The Japanese suppliers seek higher hike for July-September than 60,000-70,000 yen per tonne hike for April-June. Japanese ferroalloy makers seek 15,000-20,000 yen per tonne hike for silicomanganese for July-September from April-June. The price level is expected to be around 300,000 yen. International price level could increase more when Chinese buyers accepted US$ 16.2 per unit delivered to China for July-September, which is US$ 4 higher than April-June. Limited supply and higher cost for electricity also lifts the ferroalloy price level.
