Kobe Steel Develops High Electromagnetic Shield Sheet

Kobe Steel announced on Wednesday the firm developed high-functional steel sheet, Kobe Denji Shield, for electromagnetic shielding materials. The steel sheet can reduce leakage of electromagnetic ray to one ninth compared with general electro galvanizing sheet or coated sheet. The firm has a highly-conductive type for electromagnetic ray shield and a heat release type. Consumer electronics makers already started testing the steel sheet. Kobe Steel will sell the steel sheet this summer at about 500 tonnes per month.Electronic appliances such as flat-screen TV, HDD or copy machine are becoming highly functional with higher performances of integrated semiconductors. At the same time, electromagnetic ray or heat release value is increasing from electronic hardware. Consumer electronics makers are requesting higher electromagnetic ray shield and hat release technology. Kobe Steel developed high exoergic steel sheet, Kobe Honetsu, in 2002. Moreover, the firm added the function of electromagnetic ray shield to Kobe Honetsu.The firm increased electrical conductivity of steel sheet in addition to reduced electromagnetic ray by electric current generation and heat transfer mechanism using metal special additive to surface treatment.
