Sumitomo Metals Raises Hot Coil Export Price for Oct-Dec

Sumitomo Metal Industries will conclude the export price negotiation for hot, cold rolled coil with South Korean re-rollers for Oct-December 2008 shipping, which the firm will increase the price by FOB US$ 1,000 pre tonne with the same level from July-September.

South Korean re-rollers requested price cut to Sumitomo Metals when the steel sheet market price decreased in Asia. Sumitomo Metals demanded the price hike when the supply and demand keeps tight situation for high-grade steel sheet. The re-rollers accepted the price hike when other steel makers such as Chinese can’t produce high-grade steel sheet.

However, South Korean steel market was thrown into conclusion when some re-rollers have a cash-flow problem on dollar. South Korean re-rollers’ steel sheet import cost is upward trend. Next price negotiation is expected to be hard for January-March 2009 shipping.
