Steel Makers to Cut H-beam Supply in Tokyo, Osaka

Sumitomo Metal Industries’ subsidiary, Sumikin Steel & Shapes, which is an electric furnace steel maker based in Wakayama, announced on Thursday the firm keeps H-beam selling price for November shipment. The firm cuts production and sales volume for distributors by around 55% from October to adjust supply to demand.

JFE Steel also noticed on Thursday to the distributors to cut the H-beam supply by around 20% for October order or November production. The supply cut represents around 30% from September production after the firm cut the supply by around 20% for October production from August. The firm keeps the price unchanged for 2 months in a row.

The dealer’s H-beam shipment is stagnant for construction market is worsening. The inventory of dealers increased at the end of September from August. The makers try to adjust the inventory to improve the supply balance.
