Furukawa Electric to Expand High Voltage Power Cable in China

Furukawa Electric expands the cross-linked polyethylene insulated power cable at the Chinese wholly owned subsidiary, Shenyang Furukawa Cable in May 2009. The firm adds an insulating machine at the second plant, which started the operation in May 2008, for 500 million yen. With the expansion, the firm will have 5 insulating machines and expands the output capacity by 30%.

Shenyang Furukawa Cable supplies high voltage cable to local electric power companies. The sales are expected to be around 18 billion yen for the year ending December 2008. The firm enjoys Chinese boom for infrastructure investment when the shipment is expected to increase by 20% in 2009 from 2008 after 10-15% growth in 2008.

The firm expands the output capacity to meet growth for Chinese market. The firm started the operation of the 1.8 billion yen second plant in May 2008. The firm operates 3 insulating machines at the first plant and 1 machine at the second plant. The firm operates the machines at full capacity under the firm demand.
