Dowa Metaltech Expands Metal Ceramic Substrate Output

Dowa Metaltech expands the production of heat radiation materials of metal ceramic substrate. The firm established monthly 1.2 million units of output capacity by launching new plant in Nagano in May. With the 1.5 times of capacity, the firm tries to expand the sales mainly for products with copper and aluminium plating on aluminium nitride substrate for electric vehicle.

The new plant is to expand the production of copper-aluminium nitride substrate from monthly 400,000 units to 800,000 units. The new C plant with new equipment for etching and plating is for mass production items as B plant while the A plant is used for quality improvement and research and development.

The firm tries to launch new products more. The firm developed new high valued product by combining substrate and aluminium radiation fin. The firm already started the sample shipping for the new product eyeing monthly 50,000 units of the plant in second half of 2009.

The metal ceramic substrate is used for power semiconductor, which is used for high voltage applications including industrial machinery, hybrid car and electric vehicle. Copper and aluminium plating metal ceramic substrate is to radiate heat from the high voltage.
