Furukawa AS Opens Second Vietnamese Plant to Secure Employee

Furukawa Automotive Systems (Furukawa AS), Japanese automotive component maker headed in Shiga and wholly owned by Furukawa Electric, announced on 12 December that the firm established the second Vietnamese subsidiary to manufacture automotive wiring harness. Furukawa AS plans to transfer the partial operations of another Vietnamese subsidiary, Furukawa Automotive Parts Vietnam (FAPV) located in Ho Chi Minh. FAPV recently faces the difficulty to secure adequate employees.

The second Vietnamese subsidiary, Furukawa Automotive Systems Vietnam (FASV), will start the commercial production in November 2009 to manufacture and export automotive wiring harness for Japan and other countries with about 3,000 employees at the end of 2010 and the annual revenue at approximately $ 66 million in 2011.

FASV was established in Giao Long industrial estate, Ben-tre Region, Vietnam with US$ 5 million capital totally invested by Furukawa AS. The plant is located in Mekong Delta region, 90 kilometers south from Ho Chi Minh, where employee securement is easier than Ho Chi Minh and the subsidiary could stably have the adequate manpower.

Furukawa AS is currently restructuring the production network for automotive wires, components and wiring harnesses in Japan, China and Asia. FASV was established along this restructure.
