Weak Rebar Price in Tokyo

Concrete reinforcing steel bar market price is weak at around 74,000 yen per tonne for base size at direct shipment transaction from makers to users around Tokyo. The price decreases with pressure by the users while the makers’ selling price has wide range between the makers.

The buyers’ order again decreases to low level as January after Tokyo Steel Manufacturing reduced the selling price by 5,000 yen per tonne while the order increased in early February. The buyers now wait lower price by minimizing the purchase volume.

Rebar makers in other areas try to increase the sales volume around Tokyo at lower price than makers around Tokyo. The lower priced offer impacts on the market around Tokyo. Rebar makers around Tokyo tried to keep the price level but finally reduce the price to compete with other makers.

The demand is decreasing when some condominium and other construction plans are postponed or canceled. Lower ferrous scrap market price also impacts on the rebar market. The market waits the price move by major rebar supplier around Tokyo in the week.
