Copper Scrap Market Nominally High by 20 Yen/kg, Japan

Copper scrap market price, including copper alloy scrap such as brass and bronze, became nominally high by around 20 yen per kilogram on 5 January in Tokyo and Osaka, when Nippon Mining & Smelting raised its copper ingot selling price, the indicator. No.1 copper wire scrap price was around 265-280 yen per kg.

However, many scrap dealers said they cannot raise their purchasing price fully as wide as 20 yen though the indicator was revised up. Copper scrap users, mainly copper alloy product makers and electric wire makers, set the severer purchasing terms for January-March. In addition, the makers are minimizing their procurement volume and seem not to increase the purchasing in a short term.
