Nippon Mining & Metals to Halt Kurami for 2 Weeks in January

Nippon Mining & Metals have halted the operation at Kurami works in Kanagawa prefecture, which manufactures the copper elongation and special steel products from 13 to 19 January and the firm halt also 25-31 when the operation rate drops from the slower demand of cellular phone and digital appliance. The operation halt in February is not yet determined.

The firm extended the year-end holiday compared with ordinary and halted the operation at works since 22 December.

The works manufactures the fabricated products in phosphor bronze, corson alloy, titanium copper or rolled copper foil and high-functionally stainless steel for cellular phone, digital appliance or flat-panel display.

The firm’s output of elongation in second half of fiscal ending March 2009 is less than plan though the firm estimated the output decreases by 9% to 3,210 tonnes per month compared with same period of last year. But the demand plunged down since the fall 2008.
