Japan Rebar Export Rises by 80.7% in 2008

Japanese rebar export increased to 625,362 tonnes by 80.7% in 2008 from 2007 when an importer in USA, South Korea and Taiwan are running up the order for Japanese rebar in the first half of 2008. But it put a crimp on the export in the last half of 2008 due to dropped demand by downturn in economy and higher yen rate.

The export increased to 426,121 tonnes by 2.3 times to South Korea, 128,074 tnnes by 15% to USA, 11,726 tonnes by 49% to China, 6,794 tonnes by 73.7% to Thailand and 6,274 tonnes by 13.2% to Indonesia.

Japanese billet export made by electric furnace increased to 1.283 million tones by 39.9% in 2008 over the previous year. The export increased to 676,164 tonnes by 9.5% to South Korea, 277,423 tonnes by 92.9% to Taiwan and 222,238 tonnes by 2.4 times to Vietnam.
