Thai Minister Urges Japan Steels’ Investment for Thai Plant

Thai industry minister Charnchai Chairungrueng requested blast furnace construction in Thailand to Nippon Steel and JFE Steel on Thursday at meeting in Tokyo with each vice president of the companies. The minister emphasized the administration surely realizes the integrated steel project while the steel makers showed positive sign to consider the investment. The minister said he would report the meeting to cabinet and seek cabinet decision for the project as soon as possible.

The minister encouraged the steel makers to invest the project. Thai administration will decide policy for the project sooner while the cabinet failed to approve the policy at meeting on Wednesday due to delay of arrangement of ministries’ view.

The meeting is to confirm Thai government’s policy for integrated steel project even after change of administration. Japanese steel makers also showed interests in the project as before.

Thai prime minister Abhisit Vejjajiva solicited Japanese investment in Thailand at the speech in Tokyo. He said the administration keeps enforcing infrastructure investment and Thai southern seaboard development including integrated steel project emphasizing the consecutiveness of the policy.
