JP Steel Plantech Gets First Offshore Order for “ECOARC”

JP Steel Plantech and Marubeni Corporation accepted an order of a sophisticated electric arc furnace “ECOARC” from Dongkuk Steel Mill in South Korea, announced on Monday. Steel Plantech provides the facility for the first time to overseas electric furnace steel. The firm has provided 3 furnaces to Japanese electric furnaces.

ECOARC is a shaft furnace, which made up of electric arc furnace and shaft to charge ferrous scrap continuously. Steel Plantech provide the alternate-current furnace, which has 120 tonnes capacity and related equipment to Dongkuk Steel. Introducing this new furnace, Dongkuk Steel can save electric power consumption rate significantly compared with the existing.

Dongkuk Steel has planned to introduce the new furnace in Inchon plant to improve efficiency and environmental impact. The firm starts to operate the new furnace from the end of 2010 at 1 million tonne output per year.
